PLANNING A COLOUR SCHEME
A number of factors govern the selection of colours for a production â the mood of the play, its geographical situation (which to a certain extent dictates what kind of lighting â bright, dim, warm, cold â will be thrown upon it), the historical period in which the piece is set, and the class of society it describes. The ideas of the producer, set designer and costume designer must be fully discussed and sorted out, with a breakdown of scene changes and costume changes. Changes of mood and the various dramatic climaxes need to be decided upon so that thought can be given to tonal and colour groupings and accents of intense pure colour which will be used to heighten certain moments.
